    A classic male would have little streaking below. Females usually show some fine streaking. Yeah, the bill is what put me off I.D'ing the bird as a Hoary from the start.

    Would make sense. My Sibley doesn't show 4th year Herring. With the hawks it's all over the place; There's a pair of Coops and a pair of Sharpies visiting my yard, I commonly see both species on a single day.     1st is a Ruby-crowned kinglet, the second looks like a white-throated sparrow, but I'm not sure and the other two are house finches.

    Was there streaking on the breast, do you remember? Your description says White-Throated Sparrow to me, the tan-striped morph. They have a white throat, rufous wings & are pretty large for sparrows. Can't say anything about the yellowish breast, however...
