    102 Buzzards dead

I did think of the mozzie example while writing the reply and it's difficult. I had the same dilemma at university when experimenting on rats that were alive literally 60 seconds before they came to me, yet was ok with maiming live locusts. My tutor reckoned it was probably because of my...

    102 Buzzards dead

I have similar feelings to Neil in that animals have as much right to life as we do and in my eyes there is no diffrence between beating to death a badger and beating to death a human. Animals feel fear and pain as we do. The shootings, deplorable as they are, do not bother me as much as the...

Are you a "Bottle" or a "Flask" Birder?

Couldn't survive without ny hot, milky, sweet coffee while relaxing in a hide. In fact it's the reason I go.

    Attracting Goldfinches

Niger did it for me too. Took a while but now they are here every day. Greenfinch try them as well as a change from the sunflower seeds or when the feeder runs out.

    Neighbour shooting

If the pellets are going out of his garden then surely they pose a danger to anyone who may be walking by? I think this would be taken more seriously by the police than just a case of shooting pigeone/doves, unfortunately.

    Today at the feeder

Been off work this week. Great watching the feeders in my small garden. Yesterday I had (at the same time) Greenfinch on the thistle feeder with a Goldfinch on the other side. With a Goldfinch sat on the washing line screaming because it wanted a go. There was House Sparrows tryig to get a look...

    Fastest bird

Think you need to brush up on your physics here I'm afraid. Acceleration of gravity etc. Unless the word 'fall' is being used inaccurately.

Is this lap top good value ?

I have an ASUS X53S that I got from PC World a couple of months ago and its great. The spec you describe looks a bit better than the one I've got and mine cost £100 more, so I would say it's good value. And I can't say I've noticed Vista slowing it down. The only minor complaint I have with...

giant lamb-lifting hen harriers on camera

Like the quote "They both love their birds, just different ones". Yea, the gamekeepers love them so much they breed them in their thousands so they can be blasted out of the sky. If that's love......................

    Lake Bassenthwaite Ospreys

You can just imagine the conversation. Her: I want to move. I don't feel right sleeping in the same bed as SHE did. And being spied on all the time. Him: Look it's a perfectly good nest. I'll do it up a bit, a few more branches and a bit of new moss and it will be like a new nest. Her: You...

    Lake Bassenthwaite Ospreys

Depends where they move to. There have been several ready made eyries in the area for a while now. Trying to tempt other Ospreys. If they pick one of these maybe the Osprey project will be geared up for it. I hope so. But I wonder why they are looking to move? Strange behaviour.

    Satellite Dove or Collard Dish?

Had exactly the same thing at our local pub last year. I posted it on here, thought they would be unsuccessful because the dish was about 10 ft away from the top of the steps down to the beer garden. When the first eggs were laid the door was never opened and they weren't disturbed. However when...
