    Stick Insects, Isles of Scilly

Fantastic, thanks guys that's great. I recall seeing smooth on Tresco when the '93 hermit thrush was there. That's, ahem, 25 years ago. Time a say a few more! Thanks, P

    Stick Insects, Isles of Scilly

Morning all, Will be on a family holiday on Scilly last week of August and I'd be keen to see the established stick insects there. We are staying in Old Town and I've worked out the cemetery area is good for prickly stick insect (presumably on bramble). Does anyone have spots to try for the...

    Hot summer, migrant dragonflies?

With all this excessive heat and dryness, I wonder if 2018 might see a few late summer migrant dragonflies hit the UK. Perhaps of interest is the article on the 1995 invasion to East Anglia at link below: https://issuu.com/suffolknaturalistssociety/docs/tsns32f As an impoverished student in...

    Canvey Island site gen

Visited this fantastic spot today, 1015-1200. The now famous ditch held a territorial male Southern Migrant Hawker seemingly every 20m or so, stopped counting at 20. Amazing views if you stand in the ditch (mostly dry near the eastern end, wetter to the west) with males hovering at eye level...

    Canvey Island site gen

Hi all, Timely thread as planning on going on Monday - probably late am arrival if folk want to pool efforts. Any news, especially on the SMH and SED would be great to hear. I believe the area is also good for brown banded carder bee and maybe shrill carder bee - though grateful for news of...

    Which Grasshopper?

If this were taken in the UK, I'd have thought long winged meadow grasshopper with those dark knees. Looks bit like this one: http://www.bbowt.org.uk/species/meadow-grasshopper If in Russia, not sure!!!

    UK Dragonfly Listing

Morning all, In a rather pointless OCD listing way, I was wondering if anyone in the UK has yet seen 50 species of Odonata in the UK? Farnboro John must be close as I recall he was on 49 a while back? I'm languishing on 41, and know the ones I could have seen but haven't: Willow Emerald...

    Willow Emerald Damselfly?

Hi Ray Any chance you could share directions to your willow emeralds at Holmethorpe? PM if sensitive. Living in Wilts they are getting closer, but still not seen one myself! Thanks Paul

    2017 UK orchids

To answer my own question, the star attractions are just coming out, one flower open on one plant, one other slugged. Probably 10 days away from best. Lancaster whitebeam and herb Paris showing well! P

    2017 UK orchids

Gait Barrows Morning all I'll be driving up to Cumbria this week and wondered if anyone has looked at Gait Barrows this year? Probably too early for the star attraction but they were all over by mid June last year and with some plants being early this year I just wondered? Ta P
