    White Tern (Honolulu)

By my seat of the pants impression, the urban population of White Tern in Honolulu has grown significantly in the last 20yr. I was recently paddling outside Honolulu, when there were numerous sightings of medium-small flying fish moving towards shore. At the same time there were more than...

    So I opened the box...

Thanks for the great write up chill6x6. I like the way the results unfolded over time through a series of actual field observations. Its also great to see Leica succeeding in raising the bar through their own development and production process.

Who swaps out glasses when viewing?

Although I can have better visual performance without glasses, I don't care for swapping because for me its finicky manual requirements ruined for the most part flow and fluidity of movement. I tried several bins before settling on one as the best performer with glasses. Almost finished the...

Nikon EII 8X30s arrived yesterday, wow.

Thanks, Renze. As a novice user I plan to wait a *little* while before acquiring another bin.

Nikon EII 8X30s arrived yesterday, wow.

Thanks. As I'm not in a rush my first option is to wait till another mint condition E2 comes on the market. I favor the idea however, of supporting a good reliable shop such as Clifton.

Nikon EII 8X30s arrived yesterday, wow.

Canuck Bob, sounds like you really scored from a great seller! I was considering an E2 for those times when not wearing glasses. Which would be the more desirable seller, one of the Japan based eBay sellers, or Clifton Cameras in the UK? The latter has it listed at £379, although I'm not sure...

Advice for binocular choice for eyeglass use

Thanks. Although I'm sure eye relief was a factor, guess I forgot to mention one of the main criterions for my choice, and that would be (drum roll) use with glasses. With the Leica panning, which I formally had issues 50% of the time, is a more trouble free operation now.

Advice for binocular choice for eyeglass use

In the end I chose the 7x42 UV HD+. This mainly for its viewing ease, and compatible eye relief. The 8x32 ELSV are now in transit to Eagle Optics, who were very helpful in my trials to find a well fit binocular. I'll admit to missing the ergonomics of the ELSV's double-hinge form factor, and its...

Advice for binocular choice for eyeglass use

Thanks! Not to go too far off topic, but I agree on the White Terns. They look almost pure white, and I see them quite often. They sometimes perform close investigations up to 10-15', perhaps protecting their nests.

Advice for binocular choice for eyeglass use

I normally using Ray Ban solid frames when out and about. I have the 2nd tier lenses from Lenscrafters, so they don't look thick at all. Still now that it seems I'll be wearing glasses instead of going back to contacts, I need to get a new prescription so I can set up one of my Oakley Half...

Advice for binocular choice for eyeglass use

Thanks GG. Sl-o-o-wly working my way through the learning curve, I can now view with the lens floating slightly off my glasses. The longer eye relief on the SV feels just a *bit* more comfortable in that regard, than with the 17mm er of the x32 Meopro HD. I'm assuming most users with glasses do...

    So I was wondering ?

After being a long time original G-Shock user (deepest solo dive @205'), I've been using Timex Ironman variants for about 10 yr mainly to facilitate simple interval training for my paddling. Out of nostalgia I contemplated getting a traditional automatic Seiko dive (surfer's) watch about a...
