    Blue-headed Vireo? LV, NV

I hate to be a wet blanket, but I'm not sure if Cassin's Vireo can be ruled out. Sure, it does seem rather bright for a Cassin's, but they can be quite bright, especially when in fresh basic plumage. The two species are extremely similar (I believe the Solitary Vireo complex to be underrated...

Flycatcher and Warbler - LV, NV

    1. Townsend's Warbler 5. Definitely an empid - Dusky/Hammond's type. I'd go with Dusky Flycatcher because of range and rather short primary projection. Neil

Flycatcher ID requested - Ottawa, ON

Hi Gillian, It's an Alder Flycatcher - not the song, but a call. In addition to the classic "free-beer!" song, Alders make this "squealy" whistle and also a short "pip!" or "kep!". It's nice to have an an empid thread by sound! -Neil G.

    sparrows in northern michigan

Hi bGebz, Your first bird appears to be a Grasshopper Sparrow. Overall very buffy, with head stripes and plain underparts. The flat head and short tail are also characteristic of this species. The second bird is a Song Sparrow - long tail, rich brown overall, messy streaking... cheers Neil G.

    prairiemerlin's Photo Quiz

We have a winner! Neil78! Bird #5 is indeed a "Nelson's" Gull. It sure does look a lot like a Glaucous Gull, but the bill is rather narrow, and the wingtips were dark brownish. I considered a very bleached Herring Gull, or a hybrid Glaucous-winged x Herring, but "Nelson's" seems to be the best...

    Sparrow ID, Delaware, USA

Swamp Sparrow. You can see the brown crown, very dusky grayish face, etc. The habitat is also a good clue! :t: Neil
