    North Central Texas Bird

Hadn't thought about that. You may very well be right. There were four of them flying around a shrub and landing from time to time. Assume they were recently hatched and fledged birds. Thought they looked a little to yellowish for a Vireo, but thought the white eyer ring might ID them as such...

    North Central Texas Bird

I think this is a Vireo of some kind, but have never seen one other than in my books. Any thoughts?

    Bird in North Central Texas

You may be right. Hadn't thought about immature Phoebe and we have a mature pair that have hatched two sets in a nest above our back porch this Spring and Summer. Just not familiar with the Vireo since I haven't seen any, but know they are around.

    Bird in North Central Texas

I was at my lake house this weekend taking photos of birds that I usually see there. Spotted a Eastern Phoebe, which are fairly common here, sitting on a cable on a dock down by the water and took a photo, then spotted what I thought was another one on an electrical line much closer to me, but...

Two birds in North Central Texas

the bird that is obscured is a Slate colored Dark Eyed Junco. Still have a bunch of them coming to my backyard.

Two birds in North Central Texas

That was only photo I got of the Warbler. The lack of any yellow threw me off. I get Pine Warblers here most winters and they've all been pretty yellow bellied and olive above.

I see all the same features that you do on the Warbler that are characteristic of a Pine Warbler, and do get Pine Warblers here most winters, but they've all had a yellow hue to them like this one, which bird I posted does not have. Have never seen one this drab. Thanks for the feedback.

Two birds in North Central Texas

I took photos of two birds yesterday that I'm just not sure of what they are. One appears to be either a Gnatcatcher or a Flycatcher of some sort and the other is a water fowl that was diving down to feed off bottom of the shallow water close to shoreline in a lake. Photo was taken at great...

    Bird in North Central Texas

Thanks for the confirmation. North Central Texas is considered to be that area of Texas generally around Dallas and Fort Worth up to the Red River which borders Oklahoma. Abilene is about 150 miles west of here. This particular bird was about 40 miles north, northwest of Fort Worth on way to...

    Bird in North Central Texas

Was coming home from town and turned corner to get on road I live on and this bird was standing in the middle of the road. My first thought was it must be a young chicken because it didn't run to get away when I stepped out of my truck to take pictures and it wasn't any kind of wild bird I see...

    Bird in North Central Texas

After going back and looking at the photos I took, I now am sure it's a House Finch. Photos was taken early in the morning and pretty shadowy and not focused very well. All but one showed the bird from its backside. The one where she partially faced toward me was so dark, I didn't really look...

    Bird in North Central Texas

That was my suspicion, but I've been birding for almost 20 years and have never had a Blue Grosbeak at my feeders. I have had Rose breasted and Black headed come through during Spring or Fall migration, and I did consider the Indigo Bunting which I have seen on occasion, but, like you, the bill...

    Bird in North Central Texas

Saw this bird at one of my feeders last Saturday here north of Fort Worth, TX and just couldn't decide what it was. The large beak made me think possible Grosbeak of some kind which would be a migrant if so. Also considered a female House Finch which I see quite often, but coloring just doesn't...

    Bird in North Central Texas

I think it was the color that made me think it wasn't leucistic, but something other than a Phoebe, but it did seem to be interacting with a normal looking Phoebe and, like you said in every other way looked like a Phoebe. Certainly didn't see any other flycatchers as I checked my bird guide...

    Bird in North Central Texas

I've considered that, particularly since there was a Phoebe close to it when I spotted the two of them. I've certainly not been able to find anything in my bird guide that looks like this bird.
