    Asking for help: Meopta Meostar B1 10 X 42 vs Opticron Aurora BGA VHD 10 x 42

If weight is a concern I would go with a 8x30-32 format instead of 8x42. The only thing you’ll give up is a little low light performance but the weight and size difference will be substantial. Lots of good options as well.

    SFL vs. Aurora...

Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences with different brands and models. At the end of the day as long as we get what we are personally looking for that’s all that matters.

    SFL vs. Aurora...

Yup bought them from a member here who assured me they were functioning properly. He had won them and sold them to me for half price of retail. They came as advertised. Happy ending. It was because of those I tried others. The Veranos were the best of the bunch but eyecups were loose and the...

    SFL vs. Aurora...

No. Just the travelers (first pair) but the build quality was poor on each one. Build quality is very important to me. Hinges that are too loose, eyecups that won’t stay in place, diopters that need constant adjustment are not acceptable to me. Plus the optics were t anything special on any. The...

    SFL vs. Aurora...

Travellers, Verano, DBH VHD, Natura, Explorer WA ED-R. Plus I used an Aurora at at a Bird Fair. Couldn’t believe the salesman brought them as a demo. I definately fall into the fool me once shame on you, fooled me five times shame on me. I will say this though. I bought a pair of Travellers...

    SFL vs. Aurora...

Opticron tells me they do all their QC in the UK and every glass is inspected before going out. Makes me wonder if their QC staff hits the pub before going to work. 😜

    SFL vs. Aurora...

Build quality is important to me. That’s why I like Mavens. Also makes me wonder why they can build such high quality glasses at reasonable prices and the big companies don’t. I did have my B3 focus wheel loosened up a bit but that was personal preference. I think most people would like the...

    Sticky Focus Wheels

Not enough coffee yet. Thought you were referring to synthetic grease. My reading comprehension only kick in after the second cup lol. Interesting that there are greaseless wheel. I would think the surfaces would have to be incredibly smooth

    Sticky Focus Wheels

    Any idea which ones?

    SFL vs. Aurora...

Thanks for the review and others opinions. The thing that turns me off with Opticrons is the build quality. Every one I’ve owned or handled is lacking in that regard.

    Sticky Focus Wheels

I believe focus wheels are still universally being lubricated with traditional petroleum base grease. If synthetic grease was used I think the wheels would be much smoother plus they wouldn’t stiffen up nearly as much in the cold. Thoughts?

    Nikon HG 8x30 dissection

Nikon at least used to know how to make a superbly smooth wheel. The EDGs I once owned had an exceptionally smooth one.

    Nikon HG 8x30 dissection

Glad to hear Nikon has made at least one smooth focus wheel on a HG. I’ve yet to find one that comes close. If one prefers rubber to a nicely textured alloy knob that’s not slippery in the wet like the HGs …

    Nikon HG 8x30 dissection

The HGs are a fine glass. I would happily pay an extra $200 for a smoother focus wheel, removable eyecups and more metal and less plastic. I can understand why brands whose sub-alphas in this price category wouldn’t do this. So not to compete with their alpha offerings. However since this is...

    Nikon HG 8x30 dissection

So I take it it’s the comprehension part that’s challenging😱🤣 Just f…ing kidding! I’m as guilty as anybody of posting things I later regret. Apologies. Good reminder I need to lighten up.
