Identification

17 cm (6¾ in)

  • Black forehead and face
  • Dark olive-brown crown

Distribution

South America: found only in Peru.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

  • A. n. nationi:
    Western Andes of Peru (Ancash to Arequipa)
  • A. n. brunneiceps:
Andes of south-western Peru (Ica and Ayacucho)

Habitat

Bushy Andean slopes; woodland in relatively dry areas. Observed at 4,300 m.

Behaviour

Diet

There is no information available on their diet. They forage on or near the ground in pairs or small groups.
