Identification
15 - 16cm.
- Olive-brown crown with vague blackish scaling
- Chestnut brown upperparts
- Blackish-chestnut tail
- Chin and throat whitish with tiny black tips and broken malar line
- Head side mottled and streaked
- Underparts blackish with broad white streaks
Sexes similar. Juveniles are less rufescent above than adults.
Distribution
Endemic to Borneo.
Rare and local, highly under pressure of habitat loss. Classified as vulnerable.
Taxonomy
Monotypic.
Habitat
Primary broadleaf evergreen forest and peatswamp forest. Found at 40 - 600m.
Behaviour
Feeds on small insects.
Usually seen in pairs or family groups, most time on the ground.
Breeding season probably from February to September. Lays 2 eggs. No other information about breeding.
