Distribution
South America: east of the Andes in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.
Taxonomy
Formerly treated conspecific with Bicolored Antbird.
Subspecies
4 Subspecies recognized:
- G. l. leucaspis in C Colombia
- G. l. castaneus in SC Colombia, E Ecuador and N Peru
- G. l. lateralis mainly in N Brazil
- G. l. peruanus in NC Peru
Habitat
Moist lowland forests.
Behaviour
It follows an ant-swarm army; the ants stir up insects and spiders in leaf litter which the antbirds feed on.
