- Pachyramphus rufus
Identification
13-14 cm
Male has a black cap that continues as a black line from eye to bill. Above this line is a white supraloral that continues around the front. Upperside is pearl grey with blackish wings where especially secondaries and greater coverts are edged whitish, and slaty tail with white tips. Underside has whitish throat and belly, with the rest pale grey.
Female: cap, upperside (except neck) wings and tail are chestnut, with neck area paler cinnamon, a color continuing on the side fo the head and on breast, with throat paler and the supraloral area whitish like the male. Belly and vent area whitish.
Distribution
Central and South America
Central America: only found in Panama, on Pacific slope east of Panama City
South America: northern Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, south-eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru and amazonian Brazil.

Habitat
Lowland moist to dry areas, including forest edges, open woodland to shrubland and cultivated areas as long as some trees remain.
Behaviour
Food includes both smaller invertebrates and fruit and berries. These are frequently taken from a perch or in sally from a perch. Most often seen as pairs not in company of a mixed feeding flock.
Breeding
The nest is ball shaped, made from grass, and placed in the fork of a tree.
