[edit] Taxonomy

Estrilda charmosyna has two subspecies:

• E. c. charmosyna - Extreme southern Sudan to Ethiopia, Somalia, north-eastern Uganda and north-eastern Kenya
• E. c. kiwanukae - Southern Kenya to extreme northern Tanzania

Dry thorn scrub, usually on the ground in cover.
