Identification

Distribution

Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

Taxonomy

This species was in the past placed in genus Poospiza.

Subspecies

Two subspecies are recognized[1].

  • M. t. torquatus
  • Arid intermontane valleys of northwestern Bolivia
  • M. t. pectoralis

Habitat

Dry forests and shrubland.
