Western Africa: Mauritania, Senegambia, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Mali, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Democratic Republic of Congo
Eastern Africa: Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania

Taxonomy

Subspecies^[1]

There are 3 subspecies:

• S. b. brachyura:

• Senegambia and Sierra Leone to Sudan and northern Eritrea

• S. b. carnapi:

• Cameroon to Uganda and western Kenya

• Southern Eritrea, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, southeastern South Sudan, Kenya, and northeastern Tanzania

Habitat

Dry savanna to semi-arid scrub.
