Identification

Distribution

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.

Taxonomy

Subspecies multostriatus may be split as "Xingu Scythebill", C. multostriatus. Subspecies cardosoi and probatus may be split as "Tapajos Scythebill", C. probatus.

Subspecies

Taxa we include here which Clements recognises [1]:

  • C. p. sanus: Tropical south-eastern Colombia to north-eastern Peru, Venezuela, northern Guyana and northern Brazil
  • C. p. procurvoides: Suriname, French Guiana and adjacent Brazil north of the Amazon
  • C. p. successor: South-western Amazonia south of the Amazon in western Brazil
  • C. p. probatus: "Tapajos Scythebill". South-central Amazonian Brazil (Rio Madeira to Rio Tapajos)
  • C. p. multostriatus: "Xingu Scythebill". South-eastern Amazonian Brazil (Rio Tapajos to Rio Tocantins)
  • C. p. gyldenstolpei: Southwest Amazonian Brazil, west of the Madeira River; possibly also in eastern Peru (south of the Amazon)
  • C. p. cardosoi: "Tapajos Scythebill". Eastern Amazonian Brazil, between the Tapajós and Xingu rivers

C. p. successor is not recognised by all authorities [2].

Habitat

Lowland moist forest.
