Taxonomy
Sometimes regarded conspecific with Golden Whistler.
Subspecies
There are 10 subspecies, formerly split into two species by Gill and Donsker[3]:
- Fiji Whistler
- P. v. bella on Vatu Vara Island
- P. v. koroana on Karo Island
- P. v. torquata on Taveuni Island
- P. v. aurantiiventris on Yanganga and Vanua Levu Islands (except southeast)
- P. v. ambigua on southeast Vanua Levu, Rabi and Kioa
- P. v. optata on southeast Viti Levu and Ovalau
- P. v. graeffii on Waya and Viti Levu Islands
- White-throated Whistler
Clements[1] lumps Fiji Whistler and White-throated Whistler. The taxons utupuae and ornata have been included here by Gill and Donsker but are now placed by both authorities in Temotu Whistler.
Habitat
Behaviour
Feeds mainly on insects and spiders.
