Identification
20–22 cm (7¾-8½ in)
- Ashy-grey head
- Reddish-brown upperparts
- Black tail
- Bluish-green bill with pale tip and red patch near base
Distribution
Asia:
South-western China, Tibet, north-eastern India, Eastern Himalayas, Bangladesh, Bhutan
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Some authorities place this species in Amaurornis or in Porzana.
Habitat
Patches of forest associated with rice fields, marshes and streams within forests, obvserved at heights around 2100m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of insects, worms, molluscs and seeds from marsh plants.
