60-75 cm
- Grey-brown plumage
- Paler head and upper neck
- Pale blue forewing
- Small black bill
- Black legs
Sexes similar
Immature birds are duller
Distribution
Highlands of Ethiopia.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Rivers, freshwater lakes, swamps, freshwater marshes, high-altitude shrubland or grassland from 1,800m.
Behaviour
Nocturnal.
Breeding
It nests in grasses, in a lined nest. 6-7 cream eggs are laid.
Diet
The diet includes grasses and other plant material.
