Identification
25-29 cm
- Dark brown plumage
- Pale diagonal bars across secondary coverts
- Long pointed tail
- Hooked black bill
- Black legs and feet
Distribution
Azores to Cape Verde Islands, Johnston and north-western Hawaiian islands.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Pelagic; breeds in rocky holes or under thick vegetation.
Behaviour
Nocturnal.
Diet
The diet includes plankton, squid and small fish which are picked from the surface in flight.
