Identification
Distribution
South America: found from Colombia to Ecuador (western side of the Andes).
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
This and almost all Screech Owls in the Americas have previously been considered to belong in the same genus (Otus) as the European and Asian Scops-Owls, but a reassignment to Megascops have been accepted by among other authorities, the American Ornithologists' Union.
Colombian Screech Owl has previously been considered to be a subspecies of Rufescent Screech Owl (Megascops ingens).
Habitat
Cloud forest and pastures.
Behaviour
This is a resident and strictly nocturnal species. Habits need further study.
