Identification

70 cm
Male

  • Dark blue plumage, tinged with metallic green and violet
  • Bare red skin on neck
  • 14 feathers in black tail
  • Vertical, long white feathers on crown
  • Grey feet

Female

  • Chestnut-brown below
  • Chestnut-brown breast and forehead
  • Metallic green back
  • Black belly
  • Short chestnut brown crest

Distribution

Endemic and local in central DR Congo.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Humid forests.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes invertebrates and fruit.

Breeding

The male displays by fanning its tail. The clutch of 2-4 eggs is incubated by the female for about 26 days.
