- Myiornis auricularis
Identification
A tiny bird at 7.5 cm or 3 inches
Notable features are the cinnamon-buff area around the eye, the grey head and neck, black spot around the ear and the underpart streaking and colouring.
Distribution
South America: found in Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Myiornis auricularis has two subspecies[1]:
- M. a. cinereicollis
- Eastern Brazil
- M. a. auricularis
Habitat
Atlantic rainforest, edges and clearings.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists almost entirely of insects.
Breeding
They construct a purse-shaped nest which has a side entrance, from twigs, stems and leaves.
