Distribution
Southern Pacific Ocean: found in South America and Australasia
South America: occurs in Chile, Easter Island
Australasia: Australia, New Zealand, Polynesia, Melanesia, Cook Islands, Pitcairn Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, New Caledonia, Grande Terre
Taxonomy
Split from Blue Noddy (previously Blue-Grey Noddy)1,2.
Subspecies
Three subspecies recognized:
- P. a. albivitta breeds on Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island, Kermadec Islands and Tonga
- P. a. skottsbergii on Henderson Island, Easter Island and Sala y Gómez Island (Chile)
- P. a. imitatrix breeds on San Ambrosio and San Félix, Desventuradas Islands (Chile)
Habitat
Breeds on rocky coasts of temperate and sub-tropical oceanic islands.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of small crustaceans, fish and squid.
