Subspecies
Four subspecies are recognized[1]:
- B. l. lunulatus:
- Luzon (northern Philippines)
- B. l. callainipictus:
- Samar (central Philippines)
- B. l. intermedius:
- Northern Philippines (Leyte and Panaon)
- B. l. mindanensis:
- Mindanao (southern Philippines)
Habitat
Forests and secondary growth. Forest edges, orchards, mangroves and clearings with scattered trees. Usually occurs below 1000 m.
Behaviour
They are usually seen singly or in pairs, though groups do form, especially at feeding trees.
Diet
Their diet consists of a variety of fruits and seeds, including figs and guava.
