Identification

  • Green upperparts
  • Bluish-grey bill
  • Pale blue face, throat and narrow collar
  • Yellowish-green underparts, rump and uppertail coverts

Four subspecies are recognized[1]:

  • B. l. lunulatus:
  • B. l. callainipictus:
Samar (central Philippines)
  • B. l. intermedius:
Northern Philippines (Leyte and Panaon)
  • B. l. mindanensis:
Mindanao (southern Philippines)

Habitat

Forests and secondary growth. Forest edges, orchards, mangroves and clearings with scattered trees. Usually occurs below 1000 m.
