Identification
11-11.5 cm. A very small, dark Pygmy Tyrant with a bronzy forecrown.
- Strongly tinged rufous forecrown, lores, eyering and side of head
- Dark brownish-olive rest of upperparts, crown slightly darker than back, longer and broader crown feathers forming bushy crest (rarely raised)
- Dark brownish-olive wings, wing-coverts and inner remiges diffusely edged warmer brown to rufous
- Dark brownish-olive tail
- Creamy whitish chin and throat
- Olive breast and flanks
- Creamy yellow belly and undertail-coverts
Sexes similar, juveniles have less rufous on forecrown and are brighter yellow on underparts.
Distribution
Eastern slope of Andes of southern Peru and northwestern Bolivia.
An uncommon and not well known restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Forms a superspecies with Bronze-olive Pygmy Tyrant and is sometimes considered conspecific with it.
Habitat
Found in humid montane forest and dense cloudforest.
