Identification

15cm.

Distribution

Asia: found in Tibet, Nepal, Pakistan, India, Western Himalayas, Bhutan, western China

Taxonomy

Two subspecies recognized:

  • C. p. pulcherrimus in the Himalayas (Himachal Pradesh to Nepal, Bhutan and southeast Tibet)
  • C. p. argyrophrys in western China (Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu and western Sichuan)

Formerly considered conspecific with Chinese Beautiful Rosefinch. The subspecies argyrophrys was also formerly placed in Chinese Beautiful Rosefinch.

Habitat

Temperate shrubland and high-altitude shrubland.
