Identification
Distribution
Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Vietnam.
Taxonomy
Clements recognizes three subspecies:
- Z. m. whiteheadi in the western Himalayas (northern Pakistan to west Nepal)
- Z. m. mollissima from eastern Himalayas to southeast Tibet; winters to Myanmar and Indochina
- Z. m. griseiceps from southwest China (Sichuan and Yunnan) to northern Vietnam (Tonkin)
However, recent work has revealed that Plain-backed Thrush is in fact three species, including an overlooked one. IOC already recognizes those three species:
- Alpine Thrush - Zoothera mollissima (with whiteheadi)
- Sichuan Thrush - Zoothera griseiceps
- Himalayan Thrush - Zoothera salimalii (from northwest India (West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh) to south China (Yunnan)
Habitat
Subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland and subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland.
