- Small black and white spot on the lower ear coverts
Female
- Broad white wedge from the bill to below the eyes bordered with a thin black line.
Distribution
South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil
Taxonomy
Subspecies
Three subspecies are recognized:[1]
- C.r. rubricollis - Eastern Colombia and Ecuador to southern Venezuela, Guianas and northern Brazil
- C.r. trachelopyrus - northeast Peru to northern Bolivia and western Brazil
- C.r. olallae - southern Brazil to Bolivia
Habitat
Rain and cloudforests, terra firme and várzea forests and forest edges.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes large beetle and moth larvae. They forage in pairs and family groups feeding in the middle and upper levels of the tree trunks.
