Identification
28 cm.
- Dull brown forehead to nape with dark speckles and streaks, usually whitish spot on lores

Sexes similar, females duller. Immatures undescribed.
Similar species
The pale reddish-brown breast which is sharply separated from the white belly, the bolder barring on the upperparts, the more brownish wing-coverts, the lack of dark grey lateral collar and the white-barred black flank feathers separate this species from Malaysian Partridge. Sumatran Partridge has a grey head and underparts.
Distribution
North-western Sumatra, Indonesia.
A poorly known species, presumably common in its range.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It was formerly included in Grey-breasted Partridge.
Habitat
Forest in mountains and foothills.
Occurs from 500 to 2000 m.
Behaviour
