Myrmelastes saturatus

Identification

14.5 cm, Long bill, dusky legs, slate gray above, pale gray below, black wing coverts with 2 rows of small white dots, brown primaries. Female - gray head, brown back, dark brown wings with 3 rows of buff spots, buff throat, orange rufous underparts.

Distribution

Venezuela, Brazil, and Guyana.

Taxonomy

Split from Spot-winged Antbird.[2]

M. saturata has two subspecies:[1]

  • M. s. saturatus
  • Extreme south-eastern Venezuela and adjacent Guyana (Mount Roraima environs)
  • M. s. obscurus

Placed in genus Schistocichla by Gill and Donsker.

Habitat

Moist lowland and montane forests.
