Identification

White underparts, barred black and white flanks.

Distribution

Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

  • L. m. oenops - Tropical se Colombia to e Peru and extreme w Brazil
  • L. m. melanophaius - S Venezuela to the Guianas, Brazil, Bolivia and n Argentina

Habitat

Swamps.
