Identification
Dark brown stripe from bill to eye
Male
- Bright yellow head, rump and underparts
- Black nape, upperparts, tail, bill and legs
Female: duller
- Streaky olive-brown crown and upperparts
- Yellow rump, eyebrow and underparts
Distribution
Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil. This bird is becoming rare
Taxonomy
This species has been placed in the genus Agelaius.
Habitat
Marshes and other wetlands for breeding, grasslands mainly for fouraging. An area has a higher chance of being used by this species, and a higher number of individuals are often present, if Black-and-white Monjita is also present.
Behaviour
Diet
The diet includes arthropods which are found mainly while walking around on the ground.
Breeding
The breeding season runs from September to January. The female builds the nest and she is fed by the male whilst she incubates the eggs. They both feed the young.
