Identification
Sexes dimorphic.
- Male - body entirely glossy black with intense blue sheen;
- Female - crown, sides of face and nape glossy blue-black, upperparts rich rufous-chestnut, underparts white.
Distribution
Australia, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.

Mangroves and tropical waterways. moist lowland forests.
