Identification

39–41 cm (15¼-16 in)

  • Slate-gray head
  • Black half collar
  • Yellowish-green overall plumage
  • Yellow bill, upper mandible has a red tip

Male has long central tail feathers

  • Greyish-green face
  • Green head with faint pale green stripe below cheeks to hindcrown
  • Short tail
  • Orange bill
  • Grey eye

Distribution

Asia: found from Himalayas (Afghanistan to northern India, Nepal and western Assam)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Subtropical deciduous and coniferous woodlands, particularly with Deodar Cedar Cedrus deodara. Cultivated areas. Observed at heights around 2100 m (7000 ft) above msl.

Behaviour

Diet

Their diet consists of a variety of fruits, berries and seeds.
