Clements[1] recognizes three subspecies:
- Z. k. kulambangrae on Solomon Islands (Kolombangara, Vonavona, Kohinggo, New Georgia, Vangunu, and Nggatokae
- Z. k. paradoxus on Rendova Island (Solomon Islands)
- Z. k. tetiparius on Tetipari Island (Solomon Islands)
Gill and Donsker[2] split tetiparius and paradoxus as Dark-eyed White-eye (Zosterops tetiparius)
