Identification
Length 12 cm (4¾ in)
- Blackish-olive crown
- Olive-green upper parts (spotted and speckled with yellow)
- Yellowish under parts, streaked olive
Distribution
Coastal West Africa from Sierra Leone to northern Angola; also inland through southern Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo to Uganda.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 3 subspecies[1]:
- P. s. scolopaceus:
- Sierra Leone and south-eastern Guinea to southern Nigeria
- P. s. stellatus:
- Bioko Island (Gulf of Guinea)
- P. s. flavisquamatus:
Habitat
Primary forest edges and clearings; secondary growth and plantations.
Behaviour
Diet
They eat fruit, including figs, and insects.
