Distribution
They range from Morocco along the north coast of Africa to Egypt, the Arabian Peninsula, Iran to Pakistan and India and north to Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and Afghanistan.
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 8 subspecies[1]:
- S. i. saharae: Morocco to Tunisia, Algeria and Libya
- S. i. theresae: Mauritania and southern Morocco
- S. i. inquieta: Deserts of eastern Egypt and northern Arabia
- S. i. grisea: Western Saudi Arabia (Taif Plateau), eastern South Yemen and Oman
- S. i. buryi: South-western Saudi Arabia, North Yemen and Hadramaut
- S. i. striata: Iran to Baluchistan, Pakistan and north-western India
- S. i. platyura: Transcaspia to southern Uzbekistan, northern Turkmenistan and western Tajikistan
- S. i. montana: Mountains of southern Turkmenistan to western Tajikistan and northern Afghanistan
