Identification
9 cm. Coppery green upperparts and flanks, white underparts and crissum, throat, face sides and crown vary from turquoise, green, blue or white according to subspecies, copper green tail with dark subterminal band, long, slightly decurved black bill, flesh-coloured base to the lower mandible.
Distribution
Brazil, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Paraguay, and Argentina.
Taxonomy
Five subspecies are recognized, versicolor, millerii, hollandi, nitidifrons, kubtchecki, and rondoniae (sometimes accepted as full species). Versicolored Emerald is sometimes placed in genus Agyrtria.
Habitat
Semi-open habitats with some trees; urban areas.
