Birding solo in Malaysia & Singapore two weeks in february -march.

I lived in Singapore for many years and have family there so visited often until 2016. Wherever you go take plenty to drink with you as it may not be readily available. Pulau Ubin is good in places but you need to take a boat from Changi for the short crossing and don't miss the return! Pasir...

Lagos, Portugal, Gull with grey legs

My first visit to Portugal for 5 years in September and noticed this large Gull with pinkish grey legs, more like a Herring Gull than the expected Yellow-legged Gull. There seemed to be a lot of these about in addition to the Yellow-legged variety which were also present. Is it perhaps a...

    Lizard Point 14 June 22

It used to be at the SW corner of the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, UK, according to the early maps, but more recently it has been treated as the southernmost point of the UK mainland about a mile further east.

    Lizard Point 14 June 22

Thanks for the responses, it was the wing pattern which threw me, only ever seen them once before and then only a handful of adults.

    Lizard Point 14 June 22

This one has me stumped but there seem to be quite a few on and around the rocks.

Flying over the sea off The Lizard, Cornwall

Woodpigeon was my thought but I was expecting black tips which must be hidden.. As for Hooded Crow, I had not thought of that - the 4 in the middle were far out to sea. Lots of Jackdaws around the cliffs but would not expect them way out?

Warbler, Tresillian Riverside, St Clement, Truro

Thanks all, did not even think of that one as the bill looks so long in the 3rd pic, probably appearing stretched by the fact that it flew! Never got a good look and thought it was a Tit the way it was flitting about until I saw the pale chin in the pics.

    Spain, Eagle? June, Cuenca.

Thanks. Never thought of that but saw one one perched on rocks earlier.

    Gull, Donegal coast, April 30th

OK, Thanks for that info. I only rarely get to coasts that have these Gulls, mostly just western Mediterranean and SE Asia.

    Gull, Donegal coast, April 30th

Thanks. Does this mean they only show the mirrors as adults or is it a seasonal thing due to wear, moulting and regrowth? Does the same apply to the Lesser Black-backed cousins?

    Gull, Donegal coast, April 30th

Like a Herring Gull but no white mirrors or spots on the primaries, which look similar to Ring-billed Gull?

    Thanks for the info Rafael.

    Dark Griffon Vulture, Despeñaperros, October

Thanks for the response and the details, there is a possibility that they might appear in the Systema Central around Somosierra which I frequently visit. I did see one at Cabranosa a week earlier, pictures here. Not very clear unfortunately, it only appeared in one picture, and then only in one...

    Dark Griffon Vulture, Despeñaperros, October

Saw this very dark Griffon Vulture over Despeñaperros last October which looks almost like a Ruppell's Vulture. Just like some confirmation from the experts here. I'm wondering how far north the Ruppell's have been seen.

Little brown birds, Cabranosa, Sagres, Portugal, October.

When some of these birds settled it was on top of hillside bushes, a habit of Theklas, but not of Cresteds, which invariably go straight to ground, usually level agricultural type land or even car parks or railway yards and both species usually keep the crests erect when settled. I'm not too...

Little brown birds, Cabranosa, Sagres, Portugal, October.

Ignore the yellow on it, I forgot to turn off the dehaze filter (in processing). Added the 2 pictures with the dehaze filter turned off.

Little brown birds, Cabranosa, Sagres, Portugal, October.

Thanks Simon. First 2 were cropped from the same picture. Got lots of pics of the Theklas in flight there then!

Little brown birds, Cabranosa, Sagres, Portugal, October.

Lots of little brown birds passing low and fast while we were concentrating on the raptors, these are among those i have not figured out yet. 26th October 2017

    OK, thanks Lou.

    Mystery birds Sagres, October

First one I think is a Whinchat but not certain. Second one is same spot a few seconds later, I thought the first bird flew as the second (upper left, a Stonechat when it settled) arrived, but the flying bird is suggestive of a Wheatear, possibly Black-eared? The Stonechat settled where the...
