    Cormorant? Teesside wetlands

I took this today at Teesside. At the time I took it to be a common Cormorant judging by its distant appearance, size and flight. Looking at it zoomed in to 100% though it appears to be something different, from the dark bill, white head feathers and yellow patch under the eye. Thoughts please?

    North east England coastal bird

I spotted this bird in the sea off the coast of Hartlepool today. Not one I've seen before, any i.d. please, sorry about the pic, I only had a landscape lens with me.

N E England moorland bird i.d. request please

A single distant shot was all I got of this bird today which, at first, I thought was a Meadow Pipit. Looking at it now though I'm not so sure, the markings and the darker edges of the wings don't seem right. Any thoughts please?

Small wetland bird, N E England

I took this image on 8th July this year at the edge of a group of ponds in N E England. My guess is it's a juvenile Reed Warbler but I'm not sure.

    Bird of prey, northern Iran

When I was in Iran last year I got this shot just as the light was fading. I had thought that it was just a Kestrel but, on processing the image months later, I'm now thinking Eurasian Hobby?

N E England upland juvenile bird

When I first noticed this juvenile on the Durham moors today it was sat on the farm gate seen below being fed by an adult. My first guess was its a young Dunnock, but on closer inspection the speckled front makes me think not. I didn't want to stay near it as the adult was in a nearby tree and...

Rural Durham, UK, large Partridge like bird

My wife spotted these this morning on her way to work as they were running along the roadside and got this quick snap on her mobile phone. Anyone got any idea what they are?

    N E England coastal bird I D request

I got just the one quick shot of this bird yesterday at Redcar on the N E coast. A local birder suggested it was a Wheatear but I'm not so sure. Thanks.

NE England Woodland birds - another 2!!

After I got a reference shot of the Garden Warbler which was singing in my garden a couple of days ago, I thought I'd go out and look for it again as it's still singing this morning. I couldn't see it but I did spot a couple of different birds flitting about in the tree tops. A shot of both of...

    N E England Woodland bird

Anyone know what species this small bird is which was singing for all it was worth up in one of my trees today? It stayed very still and took me about 20 minutes to spot it. Once I'd gotten this shot (700mm and a 100% crop) I moved forward to try for a better pic. That was, of course, the point...

    Iranian birds I.D. please?

I've started a thread on birds I recently saw in Iran on the Middle East section of the forum. Two of them I'm not sure of the I.D. of. The first shot below shows what I was told was a sub species of Myna (common Mynas are much in evidence in Iran). The bird is approx Blackbird size, has a...

    The birds of Iran

Having just returned from 3 weeks in Iran I have many photos to post which, I hope, are interesting to fellow members of this forum. The first one shows one of the most common birds in Iran, the hooded Crow (known locally as the Kellargh). This bird, seen here in one of the parks in northern...

    N E England upland moors

My guess is that this could be a female Wheatear but I'm not sure. Only one photo to go on (please click on the image for larger), the bird flew off in a series of short bursts of flight moving 10-12 ft at a time. Thanks in advance.

Redshank or spotted Redshank, Teeside UK

I saw this bird yesterday at the Teeside Estuary. As per the title I'm not certain of the I.D. Any suggestions please?

    N E England Woodland birds

Spotted these two at the end of my garden today. At first I thought they were Chaffinches but, on closer inspection, I think that's wrong. I got a few pics, all distant and all 100% crops. The birds are Chaffinch sized, orange body and head, Black wings with lighter bar, white square above the...

    N E England woodland birds - Chiffchaffs?

Whilst out with my camera yesterday I took two shots of different birds which, in both cases, I'm uncertain of their I.D. The nearest I can come up with for both birds are Chiffchaffs, from the first photo based on the bar across the eye. That feature isn't clearly present looking at the second...

    N E England Woodland bird

I watched this bird earlier today at a distance of about half a mile away. At first, looking at it tail on, I thought I'd spotted a green Woodpecker but looking at the only side on image I got (and this is a 300% crop) I'm thinking it's possibly a Songthrush. Apologies for the appalling shot, as...

    N E England - small woodland bird

A small group of these landed at the top of one of my trees today. All very noisy, their chirping drew my attention at first. About Robin sized, some sort of Finch I'd think, possibly Siskins? Apologies for the photo quality, very heavily cropped. Thanks.

    In and around North Tyneside

I thought I'd start a thread for this as there doesn't appear to be one. North Shields fish quay today, apart from the common birds (Herring Gulls, Crows and Cormorants, I saw Oystercatchers x 3, a Turnstone and a Rock pipit. Photos below:

    N E England coastal I.D. request

Whilst photographing Oystercatchers today, the bird seen below landed close by and I got this one shot of it.Could it be a Redwing? As I often point out, I enjoy photographing birds but IDing them isn't my strong point, so help is appreciated, thanks |=)|

    Is this scaly leg mite?

Amongst my usual garden birds this morning, I noticed an increase in Chaffinches. We normally see two or three, this morning there were eight, six males and two females. One new bird caught my eye as his legs didn't look right. Click on the image below and see: Is this scaly leg mite? From...
