There were two pairs of Gadwall on the Moors Pool around 2:30pm yesterday, one pair quite close to the East Hide. I saw JTB yesterday but didn't realise they were worth mentioning...:eek!:

Still very cold with an Easterly wind, but the weather seems to be improving at last. Moors about two-thirds frozen, North Moors almost completely frozen. BARN OWL hiding in the reeds at the North Moors mid-afternoon, visible from the new hide. No photo unfortunately, since it was keeping a...

Had The Moors to myself this afternoon so I thought I'd report the few notable sightings (and lack of sightings). Shelduck had increased to 5, two pairs on the main pool and a lone male on the North Moors. No sign of the Wigeon or Oystercatcher seen earlier in the day. Whooper Swan still...

Maybe someone could help me with House Sparrow, which definitely isn't an Upton "easy one" for me. I also think a number of us struggled with Nuthatch for the patch list in 2017.

Thought I'd done well today with 50 species including 9 waders, until I saw the forum. And left just before Black Terns arrived.:-C Never mind, Patchwork Challenge list is still moving forwards.

We are hoping to come down for the roost tonight at the Flashes. Is one of our wonderful wardens going to be around to lock up after dark, or do I need to park at the Moors and hoof it across?

More birds around than I was expecting this morning. Highlights were Common Gull, 3 Shelduck, 1 Little Egret, 2 Gadwall and a Jay. Also saw Little Grebe attempting to eat a Perch that eventually proved too hard to swallow, and noted that at least one Golden Pheasant is still at large.

On the subject of species we can't count, we had great and long lasting views of a weasel yesterday in the undergrowth by the East track. Stalking various prey until it caught a mouse and went away to dine. Too dark/tangled/fast-moving for a photo but excellent to watch it at work.

Nothing much to add from my visit mid-afternoon. A Herring Gull on the Moors Pool. Lots of Fieldfares and Redwings about. Sparrowhawk caused mass panic amongst the passerines on the feeders. Otherwise just the usual suspects.

I'd be grateful if someone could confirm or correct my views on a couple of geese at The Moors this afternoon. 1. Greylag x Canada hybrid? 2. Farmyard?
