    Shorebirds Jamaica Feb 2020

This is probably an easy one for most experienced birders, but the more I look at the photos and descriptions in the guides or on cornell's site, the more I get confused! The bird in P2030032 (2) is the same as the bird in the foreground of P2030050 (2) - Copy. P2080092 (2) and P2150227 (2)...

Wheater or Shrike? Occitaine, France May 2019

Excuse my ignorance, but the best I could do was narrow this down to a (Northern) Wheatear or a Grey Shrike. But neither of these have the marking (bib) seen on the chest in the first photo. Perhaps that is a shadow? As acknowledged in an earlier post today, the quality of photos is low. More...

    Jamaica, January or February 2020

I am looking for a few more people to join a 6 day birding tour (using local companies) in January or February next year. Esp. looking for a female companion to avoid the single supplement. I should also mention, I would like to do birding with photography and at a fairly relaxed pace to just...

More Raptors, Occitaine region, France MAY 2019

Apologies again for the low quality photos. These two were taken one day apart from each other - towards the end of May.

Raptors, Occitaine region, France MAY 2019

Apologies for the low quality photos - they were taken with a point-and-shoot pocket camera. I am hoping that they might be identified based on location and shape. DSCF8948 (2) and DSCF8951 (2) were taken a few minutes of each other on May 23rd. DSCF9096 (2) and DSCF9097 (2) were taken a...

Caribbean Elaenia? St Eustatius (May 2017)

Not the best angles, but are the markings and bill shape/colour enough to confirm that all three are Caribbean Elaenia? thanks, Brenda

    Sparrows sp??? Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

My last sparrow photos to ID from this trip. I am at the point of analysis paralysis, but I reckon these will be super easy for some of you on this forum. 1. has a prominent light eye line, but I can`t find anything that matches that feature. 2. seems like a Song Sparrow, but no streaking. 3...

SOng Sparrow? Alberta Canada Sept 2016

Different dates, different locations. But I think these are both your run-of-the mill Song Sparrows. Correct? thx, Brenda

    All Gadwalls? Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

First 4 photos were taken within about 30 minutes of each other, but in different ponds or sections of a pond. The last one was taken many days later in a different location. I reckon they are all female gadwalls, but confirmation or corrections are appreciated. thx, Brenda

No clue where to begin - Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

As I recall I was shooting into the sun which may obscure some field marks and make this bird appear darker than reality. Really have no idea what it might be, but it is probably something really common and obvious that will make me slap my forehead and say D'OH! Brenda

    Yelllow-rump Warbler? Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

This should be so obvious I know, but somehow these guys always trip me up. And I have just read that there is a regional differences between the west (where these photos were taken) and the east (where I am used to seeing YRW). Can it be anything other than a TRW though? thanks, Brenda

Duck with over-size bill other han N.Shoveler? Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

Hello, I am wondering if there is a duck with an over-size yellow-orange bill other than Northern Shoveler? The photo does not indicate a spatula-shaped bill, just that it is large, which makes me wonder if there is another possibility in this geographic zone. Also not seeing the comb-like...

    More Hawks .... Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

Sorting through the last of my raptor photos from this trip and found a few (not so good) images. I am hoping that someone on this forum can identify the species from the little detail present. Note that all these are different birds - taken on different days/locations. thanks in advance, Brenda

    Red-tailed or Red-shouldered Hawks? Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

These may or may not be the same bird. The photos were taken in the same campground (but slightly different location) in a 2.5 hr time frame. I think red-tailed might be more plausible given the short tail, but I have been wrong so many times before. thanks in advance, Brenda

    More Hawks .... Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

I saw so many on this trip, it was overwhelming. So happy to have had this opportunity, but now overwhelmed trying to ID so many. Any guidance is very much appreciated. Note: all photos are of different birds, different locations and different dates. Brenda

    Sharp-Shin or Cooper Hawks? Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

I have read that the difference between the two is the shape of the tail feathers - rounded for the Cooper's Hawk and square for the Sharp-chinned Hawk. Still can't decided if these are round or square. Note that these are three different birds, taken in different locations, different days...

    Swainson's Hawks? Canada-Alberta (Sept '16)

Just back from a trip to southern Alberta. I am thinking that these are all Swainson's Hawks due to the rusty coloured bib. Any thoughts? thanks, Brenda
