What would £500 get me? Lightweight scope with 1.25" removable EP wanted.

Well the clue is in the title. :) I've around £500 (or more!) to buy a lightweight (birding) angled scope that has a removable 1.25" eyepiece. I want to mostly use it for birdwatching but as per my previous thread, I also would like to point it at the night sky with some w/a astro lens (did that...

Different scope for birds and for stars?

Hi, I'm just thinking about getting a budget scope and tripod for the few times we might want to carry one about when we go birding. We mostly just walk about carrying binoculars, but there are some very 'reasonably priced' scopes and tripods that are lightweight so I wondered about a New Year...

    Cheapest pocket binoculars?

We're off to Egypt soon and I don't want to risk getting our swaros bins confiscated - unlikely but still I don't want the worry. We're going to see the archaeological sites but thought there might be a bird or two. So, what is the cheapest 10x25 or 8x21 etc pocket binocular I should consider...

    Maven B3 8x30?

I see these can be purchased via Amazon UK. They get mentioned when posters talk about the Nikon 8x30s. Are they really any good? And how would their warranty be 'used' if ever necessary?

Swaro CL 8x30 vs Nikon MHG 8x30 or ...

Any others to consider as well, your views on which you would choose and why? Ta. :) I'm thinking of going to view some binos, but there is a limit atm to viewing and such, owing to Covid. I like the 'sound' of these two, I am looking for lightweight 'bigger' options (better FOV that sort of...

Where to start? Need some lightweight bins.

Well, myself and my OH have two pairs of Swarovski 10x25 CL which we bought for a lightweight option to (instead of) our 'full size bins'. But now we'd like some lighter weight full size options. I have a pair of Minox 8x32 weighing 760g (approx) My OH has Nikon Monarch 8 x 42 weighing 700g...

    Lanzarote maps

We're off to Lanzarote for a week this November, staying in Playa Blanca and hiring a car. As well as sunshine we're hoping to see some different birdies. :) Well I've seen links to lots of bird reports and such but I'm useless at navigating to places without a map/plan so can anyone provide...

    Neoprene neck strap?

Just bought some 10x25 CL Pocket Swaro's and very happy we are too. However the neck strap is horrible, can anyone recommend a comfy neoprene one as our old one's from regular bins don't fit. Thanks. :)

    Did ya wonder...best compacts?!

Well did you wonder? ;) Last September I was looking for lightweight compacts and was confused as to what to get. Expensive compacts Whether to get a cheap additional pair of bins or to swap out our main (heavier) old pairs. Finally we managed to get to a decent shop to try out lots of brands...

'Best value' 8x25 single hinge roofs?

Have (finally) decided we want to hang on to our bigger binoculars and for the moment just buy some 'best value', lightish-weight compacts for using on our holidays abroad. First trip to Lanzarote planned for May! :) So am wondering what are your recommendations for best, single hinged 8x25...

    Technical info needed

Have just tried my first pair of compacts - a pair of Kowa 8x25's. They seem quite a nice binocular, but... They are very difficult to keep in focus. The amount of focus from 'front to back of the image' seems small plus just a very small turn of the focus wheel and they've gone out of focus...

    Comparing compact binoculars?

Have reposted this in a new thread, because although it seems obvious I'm not sure how to go about ensuring I spend a fair amount of dosh on the right binoculars...holidays are getting nearer...so I've started thinking again about compact binoculars. I've read lots of the threads and enjoyed...

    Haggling over price?

Just wondering - and this is perhaps as long as a piece of string - but if I go out shopping for a couple of pairs of compacts, say Swaro's or Zeiss...how much haggling room over price might there be? :)

    Expensive compacts!

Hi again! Help and advice needed again please as I'm undecided whether to keep our standard-size bins and buy two pairs of cheapish compacts, or sell up and buy two pairs of expensive compacts - need to go round the shops and see how the binoculars feel of course, but need ideas. So looking for...

Nikon Monarchs - which version do I have?

Hi, I've a pair of Nikon Monarch 8x42 that I'm thinking of maybe trading in for some lightweight bins - but I see that there are lots of different versions, how do I tell which version I have so I can get an idea of their trade-in or resale value? Thanks.

    Lightweight/compact binoculars for travel.

Hi, just back off our summer hols - phew it was hot! :D Anyway, we've realised that taking our 'full-size' binoculars with us is a bit of a waste. Neither they nor us benefit from the travel...we tend to be doing other sightseeing, normally in hot, high season during the middle of the day and so...
