Mid-size shootout, Pentax 9x32 vs Celestron Granite 9x33

I agree that I may not be the most tactful. But then again, I'm an engineer, not a politician. I believe it's worse to give incorrect information, than no information at all. The ISO's and shutter speeds were different between the view photos. If the photos are intended to show the relative...

Mid-size shootout, Pentax 9x32 vs Celestron Granite 9x33

Same shutter speeds? Nope. Same ISO's? Nope. Useful comparison? Nope. What adapter were you using to take the photos?

    Nikon Monarch 7 new 8x30 and 10x30

It would be a rare occurrence for an optics reviewer not be be able to spot optical differences between two models.

Magnification - real vs perceived, in Porro vs Roof binoculars

I think it depends on 1.) the distance to the subject and 2.) the separation width of the objective lenses compared to your IPD.

    Nikon Monarch 7 new 8x30 and 10x30

To me, the Maven seemed to be of good quality, except for the minor point of a slightly under-tensioned bridge (and the susceptibility to glare). For reference, I find that the Nikon 8x30 EII seems quite good at controlling glare under most conditions. The 7x36 (Eagle Optics version) falls...

    10x25 or 10x32?

I don't know how many carbon fiber monopods are available, but you could build your own setup with multi-section carbon fiber tent poles. http://www.rutalocura.com/ http://questoutfitters.com/tent_poles.htm#CARBON%20FIBER%20FX http://tentpoletechnologies.com/ http://www.fibraplex.com/tentpoles.htm

    Nikon Monarch 7 new 8x30 and 10x30

In defense of one of Dennis' points, I found the Maven B3 (the closely related sibling of the Nikon) to be to be a "glare monster" too. Now glare can be quite dependent on the nature of the incoming light (angles of the incoming light, etc.) and also eye positioning of the user... but it's hard...

I removed the eye cups, and it seems to work a little better for me than just rolling back the eye cups.

Swarovski 8x25 CL-P best compact binocular?

Oops... didn't see that. Swarovski and Leica seem to prohibit sales to North America... but not Zeiss. Obviously the larger the store, the more likely they are to adhere to manufacturer's distribution restrictions.

    Nikon 8x30E11

It is the greying/blacking out when I look to the left/right of the center of the field of view that I was referring to. It seems more susceptible to it than my other binoculars.

    Nikon 8x30E11

After testing for a few hours yesterday afternoon, I decided to sell my few weeks old Nikon 8x30 EII. But after considering it this morning some more, I'll give it another chance. The view in the center of the field really is top-rate. The contrast and resolution are really excellent. It's...

    New Leica HD Ultravid PLUS

Well those aren't problems of the Nikon EDG. It just needs to be put on a diet.

    Nikon 8x30E11

61mm... so about 4mm closer than average. The 3-D effect is not a deal-breaker for me. It's an excellent binocular in most respects (excellent contrast, resolution, focusing, color rendition). For me I think the deal-breaker is its susceptibility to blackouts with my eyes. If my eyes veer...

    Nikon 8x30E11

The natural 3-D effect provided by my unassisted eyes is very natural (to my brain). My eyes/brain sees the world looks as mostly flat-looking, with subtle 3-D cues. The enhanced 3-D effect through the EII looks like a cheesy 3-D movie to me. It's kind of cool... but I don't know what value...

    Best readily available 6x30?

Unfortunately I think all the 6x30's have a smaller FOV than the Nikon 8x30 EII. You will get a more relaxed view with the 6x though.

    Birding binoculars vs. hunting binoculars

To sell more binoculars, of course. The goal is to make the prospective buyer to feel like the product is optimized for his/her hobby. Some bird watchers are turned off by hunters... and vice versa. Product literature featuring a hunter proudly towering over his kill holding a bloodied pair...

    Birding binoculars vs. hunting binoculars

It's the Atlas Optics Intrepid ED 7x36, the near-identical sibling of the Zen-Ray ED2 7x36. The sweet spot (in feet/meters) is smaller than any of my 8x binoculars. If you are looking for a wide FOV as I was, you are probably looking in the wrong place because the sweet spot is smaller than...

    Birding binoculars vs. hunting binoculars

Looking at individual birds, I was very happy with a particular 7x binocular. It was very sharp in the center of the field, and the focus wheel was very precise and conducive to obtaining perfect focus almost instantly. But when scanning a hillside, I found the optics to be non-optimal...

What was Zen-Ray's explanation of the problem?

    Birding binoculars vs. hunting binoculars

In my opinion, the difference between 8x and 10x is not very significant. If I were building a shed, would it matter so much whether I was using a 20 ounce hammer or 25 ounce a hammer? If I could only own three binoculars, they would probably be 6x, 10x, and 16x.

    Nikon 8x30E11

Are there winged eye cups that will work with the Nikon 8x30 EII? I think I saw some mention of that before. The binoculars seem very susceptible to light coming in from behind... Probably a combination of the non-optimal eye cups and the smallish 30mm objectives.

Kowa BD 8x42 with XD real compared Zeiss Conquest HD and Nikon Monarch 7

Do you have any more details about the history of diopter changes in the model? They must have had issues that forced a redesign? The serial number of my 8x42 is 13008xx. Regarding use with glasses, I don't wear glasses, so I don't know.

Oregon 4 LE WP vs Sightron ii BS 8x32 my thoughts..

I tested both models at the same time, and I didn't find the views ever to be identical. One immediately obvious difference is the field of view, the FOV of the Oregon being 0.5 degrees larger. As for the size of the sweet spots, the size of their sweet spots is not so different, but there...
