Seems to be a very promising Waxwing Winter

You're replying to a post from last winter, not relevant to now. Also last winter wasn't anything special for waxwings anyway these predictions about invasions of different species often turn out to be rubbish.

    Garden / Yard List 2023

It could well be a sedge warbler but given that theres so many photo artefacts and lots of features are obscured by branches it could also easily be a willow warbler in my opinion, and since you didnt ID it in the field but only from photos after the fact it certainly wouldnt be going on my list...

    Garden / Yard List 2023

You didn't mention any species for what your new tick actually is that's the point 😅 I cannot work out which of your photos is the new species, perhaps you are trying to claim the first photo is a sedge warbler but I am far from convinced by that ID!

    Garden / Yard List 2023

Please can you enlighten us as to which species you are talking about here because from looking at the photos you have posted I am genuinely none the wiser! I cannot tell if you are trying to claim a wood warbler which definitely isn't what any of your photos show???

    Any suggestions- French Pyrenees

May I suggest that you get a copy of the collins european guide and then look through that to come up with a list of possible species using the range maps for each species, rather than asking about literally every group individually here. Then you can use ebird to find localities for each target...

    Little owls close to Lincoln?

You would be better off joining the Lincolnshire Bird Club or similar local group so you can get much more detailed local knowledge, rather than posting lots of threads on here :)

Lady Amherst's Pheasant in Bedfordshire still?

It is being reported daily by the news services, do they know something we don't 😅

Lady Amherst's Pheasant in Bedfordshire still?

Is there any expectation about how regularly females would be sighted in comparison to sightings of males in these populations should the sex ratio be 1:1 or even 2:1?

    Garden/Yard List 2022

Probably something to do with their migration strategies? Mute Swans moult into adult plumage during their first autumn/winter whereas Whoopers don't moult until they have migrated back north the following spring? Those are all Tundra Swans which have far more black on the bill than either...

    Garden/Yard List 2022

The bird on the left is surely a juvenile Mute Swan and the other two appear to be this species too? Whooper/Bewick would never show the black line connecting the bill to the eye, and doesn't the two-tone plumage in the wings rule out Whooper/Bewick which are uniformly grey whereas young Mutes...

    Sandwell valley birders

Are you meaning to post all these posts on this Birds & Birding forum, or are you trying to post them on the dedicated Sandwell Valley thread: Sandwell Valley The latter would seem to be the far more suitable place.

    'Feral' UK Mammals

Exactly what I was looking for thank you! 😊

    'Feral' UK Mammals

I am confused how people view the 'wildness' of some feral mammal populations in the UK, so any guidance from others would be appreciated! The mammal society UK mammal list includes populations of Exmoor/Dartmoor Pony, Reindeer, Red-necked Wallaby, Racoon, Feral Goat, Feral Sheep and 'wild'...

    Irish Hare

How easy is it to find Irish Hare in Ireland, are they as reliable at Dublin airport as I am led to believe? I will be visiting friends over there next week. Also is this an actual species or a subspecies or somewhere between the two? The mammal society includes it as a species in their list of...

Best Birds Seen On Your Birthday

A simple question that arose during a conversation with a nature-friend earlier - what is the best bird or birds you have seen on your birthday? For me the 10th June it was a very spotty Spotted Sandpiper in the lake district in 2017 whilst on a walking weekend break with my partner.

    UK Moths Excel Checklist

Does anybody have an excel version of the systematic list of UK moth species per the list on the UK Moths website, including the 2013 and BF numbers? Would you be willing to email it to me if so? Thanks!

Whats the strangest non-native bird species that has visited your backyard?

Zebra Finch in my Conwy garden a few years ago. By the way, the font that you are using for your posts is horrible, it makes them really difficult to read! Maybe it would be better if you used the standard font that literally everybody else is using?

    The "Balkanization" of rarity reporting

Do many people still actually use pagers nowadays? I use Birdguides which for £50 also gets you the mobile app that you can setup push notifications on, which basically acts the same as an instant pager alert.
