    Saltmarsh Plants from Normandy

Number 2 could be Sea Purslane - Halimione portulacoides.

    magpie type in Canary Fuerteventura

Sorry, you are of course right.

    magpie type in Canary Fuerteventura

    Azure-winged Magpie seems most likely.

    Chiffchaff UK

I don't think that's a Chaffinch - though it does look 'pinkish': which I take to be a feature of the photograph more than anything else.

    House Sparrow? 10/20/14, DE, USA

    It certainly is.

    I've lost my touch

You say: 'I am beginning to convince myself that I can't gain any more bird knowledge.' I didn't know that there was anyone, anywhere, who could claim they can't gain any more knowledge (about birding or anything else, come to that). If you are really claiming that you can't learn any more I...

Black Iridescent Bird, Coastal Maine USA

As a European, I can confirm they are most certainly European Starlings. Or just 'Starlings' as they are known over here.

Thank you very much. I shall pass that on.

    Plant in a Shropshire garden

I am fairly certain this isn't a British native plant, but I am hoping someone can identify it for me. I have no information other than what is in the photo, I'm afraid - so no precise idea of size or anything else. It does look fairly distinctive though.

    Look like Goldfish to me.

    Please help identify this bird

I agree. With the greatest respect to KCFoggin, that is definitely NOT a House Sparrow. Can't help with what it is, though.

    Headless bird ID Challenge

I think it gets its name from the US 'New Hampshire', doesn't it?

Of course you are right, and it's what I actually meant to type. As I grow older the gap between my brain and my fingers seems to grow ever bigger!

I think it might be an Oxlip - Primula elatior

still trying to work on my id skills

They might well be male and female, but not of the same species... The black one is a Coot. The other one is a duck of some sort, though I don't know what. Let's hope someone with more knowledge of birds your side of the Atlantic comes along with a more useful answer soon.

    Owl id - Merseyside UK

As has been said, the body shape is too 'bulky' for LEO, but right for Tawny. And I don't know how you can see what colour the iris is from those photos. I haven't a hope!

I think it might well be Bell Heather - Erica cinerea.

    Pond dipping

If there were anything rare I'm sure you'd know about it. I wouldn't get hung up on the legal stuff: people have always pond-dipped and probably always will - it's great fun, and I'm sure you and your daughter will enjoy it. Go for it! Who knows, it might start her on a life-long interest.

    Pond dipping

You are right - up to a point. There are species which are 'Scheduled', and it is indeed an offence to interfere with them, and the Great Crested Newt is one of them (as is the Natterjack Toad). Other amphibian species are not protected (though it's illegal to sell or trade in them, I...

    Pond dipping

As far as permission goes, technically any pond/river/whatever will 'belong' to someone, and be on someone's land, so the owner could be unwelcoming - this obviously won't apply to organised or sanctioned 'pond dips' as mentioned above. In practice, I have done this on and off over many years...

Eurasian Wren - can we do better?

Jenny Wren is just horrible! It's twee, folksy, 'cute' and anyone using it deserves to be battered to a pulp with a brick. Merry Christmas.

    Another one for female Blackcap.
