    Raptor Identification, Northwest Turkey

Some of you may have seen or replied to my previous post, where I asked a probable rough-legged buzzard. Not having received affirmative replies for a RLB, I made a short visit to the same location the next day, and came across this bird. This is different than the previous bird, therefore I am...

An old sighting from the year 2010, month July. In this region of Turkey, northern and eastern black-eared wheatears share the habitat. There is only one photo, and from this angle, it seemed to me that both species can be considered. Is there a way to identify from this angle? Thanks in advance,

Grey heron or common crane (Istanbul, Turkey)

Very little detail of plumage, I am wondering if it is possible to identify this bird based on the physical form. Common crane is a rare passer-by and grey heron is common in Istanbul. In the field I was sure that it is a heron, but going through the photos, I see the neck as very thin and...

    Passerine bird identification, Northwest Turkey

These rocks are at the outskirts of a residential area. First I thought these to be ortolan buntings, but nesting in rocks is not something they do, as far as I could find. Then I thought of house sparrows, but the well-defined whiteness at the throat did not fit. Then I thought of rock...

Coal tit or great tit, Istanbul, Turkey

I think this one looks like a coal tit by its overall plumage, but I cannot see the distinctive features, and I cannot help thinking about the probability of it being a great tit. The second wing bar is missing, should it always be there? The white patch at the back of the head is not visible...

    Is this a rough-legged hawk/buzzard? - Northwest Turkey

Common buzzards are common in this area in winter, but there are also previous sightings of the rough-legged hawk/buzzard. The pale part on the upper tail seemed big to me for a common buzzard. Then a rough-legged? (Northwest Turkey, yesterday, January 29th.) Thanks in advance,

    Passerine bird identification-Northwest Turkey

These photos are from the same area, same day. The first two photos are of the same bird. I think it is a eurasian linnet, but I have some doubt on the bill. Is it too big for a linnet? Any other alternatives for this bird? There are three birds in the third photo, I marked them. These were part...

Could this be a moustached warbler? Istanbul, Turkey

I saw a sedge warbler and this bird that I am asking, in the same place. Comparing this to the sedge warbler, it has a whiter supercilium and whiter underparts, and I sensed it to be bigger than the sedge warbler in the field. These are in favor of the moustached warbler. On the other hand, the...

    Raptor identification - Northwest Turkey

Can you help me identify these raptors. There were two of them, soaring together. Photos can be of the same bird, or one for each, I cannot tell now. I think they look like common buzzards, but: i) they were soaring very high, not a height that I am used to see the common buzzards ii) ground...

Could this be a rosy starling? Northwest Turkey.

Not a good photo, I know. But considering the form and the darker and lighter parts, I cannot match it with any bird other than rosy starling. Can there be other alternatives? Date is June 2020, location is Northwest Turkey.
