England birding in February !! where to go

Good choice. I'd be tempted by Dungeness and Isle of Sheppey, especially aroung Harty Ferry/Capel Fleet for the raptors. Cheers

    Birds you regret NOT twitching

Siberian Rubythroat in Dorset. I was on a course in Burnham Beeches and probably could have bunked off but didn't. Oh and Jimi Hendrix. Didn't go to Isle of Wight but thought he'll be playing in London soon. That hurts much, much more than any bird, even now. Cheers

What's the commonest UK bird you've not seen

Aaaargh - Pallas's Warbler. Another fictitious species. The number of times I've gone for one for there to be no sign of the blighter.

    Famous or celebrity birders.

Now there's an alternative interest - Oddie-spotting. I've never seen one in the field but used to see him all the time at jazz gigs - Miles Davis, Weather Report, John McLaughlin etc and always in the bar. Has he given up jazz and more importantly beer? Cheers.

    Rare Birds in Florida ?

Hi Andy If you haven't come across it, the following website http://www.tropicalaudubon.org/ is very useful - the birdboard contains up to date latest bird sightings including rarities. The other option is to subscribe to the Florida birdlist at Florida University that was previously mentioned...

Anyone noticed a bunch of RN Parakeets??

I was at Esher for the rugby last Saturday and they have all cleared off. It’s become a bit of a talking point with some of the spectators. It was quite a sight last season, akin to a green blizzard at times. I live several miles due East of the ground and I’ve noticed a marked reduction in the...

    What's the Bravest Bird???

Lapwing would get my vote as well after witnessing one do an imitation of a ground to air missile in seeing off a marsh harrier. Cheers John

Orlando, Miami and Florida Keys Easter 2005

This was essentially a family holiday but with some time for birding. My fatal "mistake" was having too many lie-ins and latish starts. Guess I'll just have to take another holiday in Florida. Florida. 19th March – 2nd April Landed at Orlando late afternoon but it was dark by the time we got to...

    Waxwing success

Finally caught up with Waxwings - in central London, 3 minutes walk from work. Now that's what I call a lunch hour. A small flock (40 or so) feeding around Fitzrovia. Many thanks to the kind people who let me look through their scopes and bins. Quite made my afternoon. Cheers John
