Lesvos - Skalla Kallonis or Sigri ?

Having been to Lesvos for the first time in April/May 2014 I would like to try a hotel or apartment in Sigri some year. You could get up nice and early and have breakfast and be out birding by 8:00am I think this would give a real advantage, rather than driving from the Skala area. Must try...

    West Donegal

Arranmore Magheroarty & Blanket Nook Southerly winds made our trip to Arranmore Island a bit of a damp squib. Overcast conditions with sea mist and low cloud spoiled birding. No sign of the Snowy Owl & no seabirds other than a few Gannets & gulls. Walked the Burtonport Railway track footpath...

Not much in the way of recorded visits to Tory this year? I hope to get over next week. Looking forward to an autumn trip or two this year, never know what may turn up. Richard

Tory Trip 1st June Rather late but here is the Derry trio's bird list for 1st June. Quite a rough sea with swells up to 10 ft. Highlight of the day was Great Shearwater & at least 6 Basking Shark. See attached bird list. It was nice to meet Dublin birder Mark Stewart. Roger Murray, Theo...

    Swarovski ATX 85mm

New modular spotting scope by Swarovski Optik. An excellent scope with a noticeably bright and sharp image. This scope has a very handy digiscoping attachment which allows rapid attachment of camera to scope.

    Swarovski ATX 95 Case

I had a look at the Cabelas case and its doubtful it would fit the ATX. I prefer the stay on case design as it offers good protection to the scope when out and about. I had ordered the Swarovski stay on case and finally picked it up yesterday. It is excellent and is everything I expected from...

    Swarovski ATX 95 Case

I was looking on Uttings web site and they showed stay on cases for both the eye piece and front piece as separate items. The price was close to £200 for both. Sounds very expensive as the last ones were £155.

    Swarovski ATX 95 Case

I heard they had produced cases but were not happy with the quality. Wish mine would come soon.

    Swarovski ATX 95 Case

I bought an ATX 85 recently and am currently waiting for the stay on case. Inquiries through the dealer say that the swaro cases should be available soon. Perhaps this week or next.

TLS Apo adapter and full format camera

I think it did vignette throughout the zoom range. I will check at the weekend and let you know for certain. David I don't have a 50mm lens. However my son owns one and will be home in 4 weeks. Richard

TLS Apo adapter and full format camera

Trial of TLS APO Well I tried out to TLS APO today. Firstly I attached it to my Nikon D800 and immediately noticed the vignetting. This problem was easily solved by going into the camera menu and switching the Nikon to DX mode. The TLS APO produced superb results and was very simple to use. I...

TLS Apo adapter and full format camera

TLS APO with full frame sensors After seeing your thread I phoned Swarovski Optik and they say that full frame DSLRs are not suitable as they cause vignetting. I think I can get round this by switching the Nikon D800 to DX mode. I have an opportunity to try this out later this month when the...

TLS Apo adapter and full format camera

This is news for me. i was hoping to buy an ATX scope and use the TLS APO to connect to a Nikon D800 or D700. It would be worth contacting Swarovski to find out if it will work or not. I don't fancy spending £362 to find it vignetting.

You seemed to have the best of both, a nice holiday and some good birding. I was in Mallorca for the first time in late April. Had a brilliant few days birding. Follow my flickr link for some photos. Richard

    Mallorca 2012

We were in Mallorca in April and got caught in the 90 euro leave back empty scam, for that is what it is! We booked through Travel Republic and there did not appear to be an option to refuse the full tank. Also if you did not pay for the extra insurance they wanted a deposit of 600 euro against...

    Nikkor 70-200mm 2.8 + TC for birding

Thanks for this info guys. I'm using the new D800 body and also retain my trusty D700 as backup. Given the high pixel count with this new camera, I am keen to use a high quality lens to get maximum detail. I have an old 70-300 Nikkor but find it very slow to focus, hunts a lot and the detail is...

    New Zoom lens?

I have a Sigma 170-500mm for sale if that would be of interest. It is in very good condition and it has a filter fitted too. Give me a pm if interested. Richard
