    Pipit

I believe this is a meadow pipit but at first thought it to be rock pipit can anyone confirm and what is best way of distinguishing. Believe the rock would have a less distinct circle round eye. Edit while since I have been here no attachment sorry

    Mystery build in nestbox

Hi I put up a robin nestbox this year but unfortunately after examining it they chose to go elsewhere. However when I looked at it today at first I thought it was occupied then I realised it was something built onto the roof. I assume this is a bee or other insect of some sort. Anybody any...

    Is this Marsh Harrier?

Hi Was out for first time locally with new lens and came across a walk I had never been. The sound of birds and seeing deer was amazing. However as I was attracted to deer noticedwhat i thought was buzzard heading in my direction. The bird was driven out the area but I did get these distant...

    Is This likely?

Hi All I had what I initially thought was a female siskin on my nyger seed feeder today however I then spotted the bird had a red cap on its head. Could this have been a lesser redpoll? It flew away after 2-3 minutes of fairly aggresive behaviour to the goldfinch. Got the camera ready for next...

    Buzzard behaviour

Hi On a warmish day last week I saw 6 buzzards flying 'together' in thermals on the edge of a fairly built up area near the hospital I work in. I have never seen so many together and there was a fair amount of calling going on. Is this young birds pairing behaviour?

    Do Mallard hunt fish?

I was watching what I thought was a lone female mallard on the shoreline of Loch Lomond when I realised the duck was chasing shoals of smell fish which kept jumping out of the water ahead of her. I think she was trying to drive them into the rocky shallows. Would this have been a mallard and if...

    Heron behaviour

On a recent holiday in the peak district I came across a field with 25-30 Herons standing in a circle in roughly equidistant spacing except for a few sub groups who seemed to be forming their own mini circle. I pulled into a nearby car park and got a couple of poor quality pictures. You could...

    RSPB Baron's Haugh

Cold day up here today. Thought I would take out the FZ20 with teleconvertor for first attempt. As I entered the first hide disturbed a wren in for a heat I guess. The Haugh was mainly ice covered though in the distance a lot of water fowl on an area still not frozen. Possibly Pochard though...

Me again is this Meadow Pipit?

I knew camera was going to help me get a handle on identifying these small birds. I am also right with this one? I did see them taking off and doing a parachuting type display. I am sorry if these seem simple ID's but have only moved out of garden into wider world of birds. Thanks Tom
